cloud tags txture

In version 49 of Txture, we have added a new exciting functionality to better understand as-is cloud estates from different angles. This enhancement is meant to support decision-making in optimization and modernization activities:

  • Reporting and automation for cloud tags
  • Daily as-is asset cost and aggregated application cost reports for cloud estates

Handling of cloud tags (or labels) is one particular area we invested in. Cloud tags are used to annotate your cloud resources and help to manage from different viewpoints like operations, ownership, dependencies, etc. They are used to govern a cloud estate. Organizations should implement rules to establish internal compliance by achieving high coverage of mandatory tags across the estate.

For this purpose, we have added a "Cloud Tags" report in Application Portfolio Advisor (APA), cf. Figure 1. It allows you to see all used tags and tag values as well as assets that do not have coverage yet regarding a particular tag.

A well governed and well annotated cloud estate can greatly ease the data collection process and consequently speed up decisions around change and migration. Txture's cloud estate importers ingest tags by default and store them per imported asset in the Txture asset repository. The query language can be used to filter for tag keys and key-value pairs and is useful to create further custom reports and dashboards.

Cloud migration initiatives need to assess applications in a portfolio individually. Business criticality, technical architecture, current requirements or changing goals and demand need to be considered. To establish a business case for a cloud transformation cost optimization potentials also play an important, sometimes dominant role.

Txture's Transformation Cockpit offers the functionality to create different cloud target architectures that can follow different cloud approaches for applications. These include bills of materials and show expected future cost. In the latest version of Txture we have now added reports that detail daily cost per application (see Figure 2) by aggregating cloud billing data (based on FOCUS™). This way current cost and cost trends can be compared to future optimized cost.

Txture supports cloud transformation journeys by speeding up the necessary data collection processes and by allowing comprehensive business case analysis with an application centric approach.
