Txture’s SaaS platform stands out by not only providing organizations with a clear overview of their IT portfolio but also recommending tailored modernization scenarios for each application, aligned with the organization's cloud goals.
As a result, FinOps insights play a central role in Txture’s recommendations. With every new product release, we strive to deliver a comprehensive and transparent view of an organization's IT costs—both on-premise and in the cloud.
In this latest Version 46, we have introduced a new asset type called “cost item”. The purpose of this asset is to account for certain expenses that cannot be directly mapped to a specific IT component but still need to be factored into overall on-premise or cloud cost calculations.
This can be used in cases where particular lines of a cloud bill cannot easily be attached to a managed IT asset in Txture, or to express any cost outside of the regular application and IT stack.
A Cost Item can account for cost in many cases, including the following:
For instance: while we attach cost to individual cloud serverless functions directly, we will bundle all cost accumulated across analytics jobs (e.g. if you use BigQuery) as a Cost Item asset, since we don't represent it yet Txture's data model in a dedicated way.
Doing so enables Txture to shed light on total cost, but also allows for more fine grained reporting on cost.
For instance: if you ingest FOCUS based billing data, but have not yet imported resources of all your cloud subscriptions, Cost Item assets will be temporarily created instead of the specific IT assets. Once you import actual IT assets from these estates via Txture's importers, they will eventually replace the Cost Items and next to cost, will provide more resource specific details.
This helps to always have a total cost view, while working towards getting detailed asset level information (e.g. sizing, utilization, technologies), which is crucial for calculating modernization proposals and architecture optimization.
